Back to planner

What each tool in the left rail does, and the single-key shortcut to switch to it.

The tool rail

The left edge of the editor holds the tool rail. Exactly one tool is active at a time, and the active tool drives what clicking on the canvas means.

ToolKeyWhat it does
SelectVPick pieces, drag selections, open the inspector. Drag in empty space pans the view. Default tool.
PlacePDrop pieces from the catalogue dock. The ghost previews the next piece.
Flex TrackPlace flex track. Coming soon — shown dimmed in the rail.
MeasureClick two points to read a distance. Coming soon.
AnnotateDrop text labels on the plan. Coming soon.

To delete track, select the pieces and press Delete (or Backspace) — there's no separate erase tool.

Flex Track, Measure and Annotate aren't built yet — they sit in the rail dimmed and labelled coming soon, and can't be selected until they ship. Their keys (F / M / A) are reserved for them, so pressing those does nothing for now. There's no Group tool — grouping is just multi-select (shift-click or a marquee) — and scenery is out of scope for the planner.

The top bar's cogwheel (next to the layout name) opens Layout settings — the board colour and snap step for the current layout.

What clicks mean in each tool

  • Select — left-click picks; shift-click adds or removes; drag in empty space pans; shift-drag draws a marquee. Press Delete to remove the selection.
  • Place — left-click drops the ghost; right-click (or Esc) cancels.

Middle-click drag and right-click drag always pan, regardless of the active tool. The mouse wheel always zooms.
