Core and pro features
Locodex's advanced features split into core (free for everyone) and pro (unlocked by the one-time eternal license). Pro is not tied to the Cloud subscription — owning the license unlocks everything Pro permanently, online and off, whether or not you ever subscribe. The two are independent: the Cloud subscription syncs your plans across devices; the license unlocks the software.
Pro comes in two shapes:
- Modules — specialised tools that layer onto the editor (overlays, inspector panels, toolbar toggles).
- Capabilities — advanced features built into the editor itself.
Free for everyone
Planning is complete on the free tier for a flat, single-level layout:
- The full editor, snapping, auto-connect, and basic geometry validation (loop closure, open ends, overlaps, tight-curve warnings, baseboard bounds)
- The full rail catalogue and your own / community libraries
- Polarity & Wiring (core module) — reverse-loop short-circuit detection, so you catch shorts before you spend money on track
- Image / PDF / CSV export, read-only share links, and unlimited local
.trackplanfiles
Pro — unlocked by the eternal license
The things you grow into:
| Pro feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Multi-level & helix | Decks, gradients, ramps and helixes — design layered layouts, not just flat ones |
| Loco-aware validation | Clearance and minimum-radius checks against your chosen loco or rolling stock |
| Sectioning & Blocks (module) | DCC power districts, blocks and feeders — the full wiring planner |
| Advanced export | 1:1 printable templates and baseboard segment plans |
| Scenery & baseboard planning | Plan scenery and the baseboard footprint around your track |
Some of these are live today (multi-level, loco-aware validation); others are on the way and listed so you can see what the license covers. New capabilities added to this version ship to existing owners free — we never charge twice for what the license implied.
How a locked Pro feature looks
If you haven't unlocked the license, a Pro feature stays visible but locked:
- A pro module's canvas toggle shows a lock and links to
/pricinginstead of turning on; its inspector panel shows a short description and a See lifetime license link. - A pro capability shows the same locked panel in its place — e.g. the Decks accordion (multi-level), and the reference-train picker in Validation (loco-aware checks) shows a small Pro lock while the basic checks keep running.
Your /profile Account & plan tab lists every module with its state: a green dot for ones you can use, a lock for pro features you haven't unlocked, and a soon tag for things still in development.
New packs later
The license covers everything Pro that exists today plus all its updates, forever. Entirely new packs released down the line are sold separately as one-time purchases — buy them if they're useful, or keep what you have. Nothing you already own ever stops working.
